To me, this is a super fun theme which is a fact that all of us veteran writers and new to the platform live, yes I believe we all have ghost followings.
Can you imagine if all the followers we have read our articles?
The world would be perfect! haha
For the veterans, I think some people followed them for convenience but today don’t read their articles, but for the new writers on the platform, we know well how these ghosts appeared, don’t you?
These ghosts came from Facebook communities (groups), remember when you put your link in the comments of another writer’s post to exchange claps and followed?
These people are right there in your follower numbers and don’t give you retention, reading time and much fewer claps when posting a new article, it’s tough but it’s reality.
Imagine your business, you depend on your business to live and pay your bills, have you ever wondered if you can’t retain a customer? It’s money gone!
The same goes here on Medium, we all have ghost followers, they’re right there in your follower stats but they’re not yours… it’s a paradox, they’re yours but they’re not yours.
They are there but they are not!
So my friends will have to live with that, that’s how it goes on Medium, the fight for financial independence ‘’just’’ writing.
