If this isn’t worrying then you don’t know the risk you take as a writer here on Medium.
Well, some time ago in the middle of February I stopped writing on Medium and only returned in September, and for just a month I can say that the results were worthy of a beginner, I made $1.77 at the end of the month and for me this it was great thanks to Medium’s Facebook community.
What happens in the Medium community?
Some writers know each other and start supporting each other here on the platform, however, some just exchange ‘’follow and clap’’ don’t read other creators’ stories or articles and just something comes to mind when I see people so It’s all too clear the intention to profit only’’ that’s what’s worrisome.
This movement of exchange of following and clap without retention or watch time on articles is growing too much here on the platform and this is trying to fool the algorithm, but is the Medium team noticing this? I hope so and that they are taking the necessary steps to resolve it.
Can you imagine writing so many stories and articles with such dedication and commitment and they are thrown away? Yes, this is what can happen to you and it’s already happening with big writers on the platform, writers with 80K followers having only 200 views, 143 reads and 69 fans, man that sucks! It’s throwing away your precious time and time is a non-renewable resource, it hurts to think about it!
Some writers are already living this and don’t know how to reverse the situation, so today on the Medium platform don’t be scared by numbers, many of the followers are ghosts, you can see them there but they’re not doing it, giving value to your work, I have some ideas on how not to go through it and if you are already going through it I believe you can reverse the situation.
How do I plan to reverse this?
Even I, who only have 60 followers, would like these 60 to give me retention and engagement as I do to everyone I follow, if that were the case the world would be perfect but one thing I do…
- Follow people recommended by Medium on the homepage but only if the content is of interest to you;
- Engage with these people, comment, clap and you can go further, follow the social networks and keep in touch, but for real and not falsehood.
- You can even share your stories in the communities whoever is interested will come to you, support other creators and engage with them without waiting for a following and clap in return.
I believe that this way you can grow with those who are interested in your work and not with people who leave you a clap but I don’t read and didn’t give feedback on your article, it’s the same on Youtube, I hope all followers or subscribers would engage, the world would be perfect.
That’s why I think you should worry about this wave of fake followers and fake clap, don’t fall for it, do it differently, bet on the SEO of your articles too so you’ll be creating a funnel, one day, anytime someone will come your way created to get into your story or article.
I hope the Medium team is aware of these attempts to deceive the algorithm because this will hurt and is already hurting countless developers on the platform.
To all writers and readers, I wish many successes that succeed each other again and again!
